BOERO GROUP AND IIT: ECO-SUSTAINABLE PAINTS FROM VEGETAL WASTE
After two years of cooperation with the research team Smart Materials of the ITALIAN INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY we completed a project aimed at the creation of innovative paints that incorporate microparticles of bioplastic made from cocoa and oranges vegetable waste and from cornstarch. Bioplastics of plant origin have been tested as a possible alternative to the traditional pigments used in the formulation of interior paints. In particular, the microparticles deriving from corn starch, of white color, have been studied as a possible alternative to the traditional white and matting agent for the production of white-neutral paints, then painted with different colors by means of traditional tinting systems. With the bioplastics coming from orange and cocoa scraps, colored paints (orange Yellow and cocoa Brown) were made using the natural pigments of the starting vegetable waste, obtaining both Decorative products and plain colors. Experimental paints are currently being tested at our R&D Center.
